That's such a lovely way to make memories of your holiday. I went to Spain last year and took my paints with me - the little sketches bring back great memories as I had to really sit and look at the scenery so it made me notice details I may have missed otherwise. I tend to pick up lots of little tokens like napkins and tickets then put them in a box and forget about them, this has made me want to get a little book so I can just stick the things in as I go and write/draw a little something. Thank you for the inspiration!
The little book is very convenient! I bought a couple rolls of cute washi tape at a stationery store there and that was a fun way to add the paper elements in there. So many options for recording our memories!
I had a journaling top tip for washi, which is to wrap strips round an old plastic card - like loyalty cards or something - and tuck that in the back of your journal so you always have some. I have some tucked in a journal....somewhere :-D
This looks like such an amazing trip! I love the little sketchbook pieces you did to document the adventure. This definitely makes me want to plan and sketch my own adventure.
What a fun adventure! I am glad you found some time and inspiration to do some sketching, even after the fact. I often work from photos I've taken while on location, and they still provide awesome memories, even being sketched in the studio. 🙂
Yes! I used to feel like shortly after a trip was over, I didn't really want to talk about it or relive the moments because the magic of being there was over. But it's still there and accessible whenever we want to dip our toes into those memories!
This was so much fun to read and follow along your journey with you! Can totally relate to the burnout - very glad you listened to what you needed at the time, and love the idea to circle back when your heart and mind were ready <3
Travel is certainly not wasted on you! What a rich experience that you can take into all future experiences. Thank you for sharing this with us and modeling such a good way to be in the world!
I just came across your post. I’m from Hokkaido (now live in Canada), so all the places you visited are familiar. Time well spent in 2.5 weeks! Thank you for sharing.
Loved reading about your travels and the way you recorded them in your journal/sketchbook. Lots of wonderful memories and your husband loves to cook! What a dream. 😊 🙏

Oooh! Excellent idea! My washi was always falling out of my little art pouch!
Thanks for the revisit.
Thanks for reading, Susan!

Thanks!! How is your 100 Day Project going? Do you still like working from your photos from the AT hike?

This is beautiful
I love what you said about travel becoming a part of our bodies.
Very charming illustrations and story. Occurs to me that it might be a very popular children's book in Japan. Keep up the good work.
