I love this, Rosalie! I usually pack waaay too many art supplies and then never touch them. What a great idea to let your inspiration lead the way and not put too much pressure on yourself.
What a lovely way to go about it! I feel the same about nature journaling and I never want it to feel like a chore! Love your flat colour illustrations too - the results are so different to what you may have done had you taken your own supplies right? I'm desperate to visit Mexico!
I love your Mexico art! It's inspiring me to play with my paint pens more! I think I need smoother paper for them. My watercolor paper kinda shreds the tips.
I love your idea to wait until you're there and feel the pull to create before acquiring art supplies. It really makes the sketches unique within your work and especially meaningful. Thanks for sharing!
It worked out so well for me! I feel like sometimes bringing the supplies along from home can give unnecessary pressure to create even if you aren't really feeling it. Thanks for reading!
It’s really cool to see ow you use your talent to show us a new way to see things. The vibrancy of Mexico always astounds me, and you get it!!! Well done!
I recently took a trip to Southern California and debated whether to take supplies knowing I was not on vacation but a trip to visit family that may not be around much longer. In the end I took my smallest watercolor kit and a small watercolor pad. I'm glad I did because on one sleepless night I just got up and painted. It was relaxing and took my mind off of my brothers sickness.

This was my first time trying this approach, and it was so fun! Plus, finding a good art supply store on foot was a satisfying adventure :)

Woah, that's amazing! It's such a stunning shade of blue.
What wonderful splashes of color and fun paint pens! Sometimes the most memorable things happen when they are unplanned!
Definitely!
Love this idea! It must have been so interesting visiting an art materials shop in a different country too! Thank you for the inspiration :-)
It was super interesting! It was the nicest art supply store I've been to in years—huuuuge selection.
Totally gorgeous!
thanks Lauren!
Lovely. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for reading, Laurie :)
Thanks you for sharing your drawings/paintings from Mexico beautiful and colorful!
Thanks for taking a look!
Thank you for this! I love Oaxaca, and art supply stores are wonderful everywhere. Sigh. I really need to go back now.
Ceci
Oaxaca blew me away. Can't wait to return.
Did you go to Merida? It's wonderful too, in a completely different way.

Yes!! The results are totally different than if I'd taken my normal travel art kit (watercolors).

Yep, mixed media paper and Bristol paper work super well!

Thank you for sharing your impressions of Mexico with color! We want to journey there, too.
